Smart Transit Shuttle at the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG)

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) faced the daunting and recurring challenge of arriving at a portfolio of possible improvement plans to sustain the region’s economic vitality while improving access and reducing pollution from mobile sources.

In response to the challenge, Miralto Consulting Principal Paul Curcio led a multidisciplinary team of faculty and graduate students in creating and developing  Smart Shuttle Transit. This 'demand responsive' solution enabled by advanced transportation technologies matches groupings of travelers with similar origins and destinations and dispatches shuttles on routes optimized for travel time. The proposal offers a solution to serving highly dispersed development featuring “many to many” access demands and a patching solution to bolster ridership on fixed geometry networks by closing the last mile.
