Generating Energy from Organic Waste

Organic Waste Logistics (OWL), an innovative food waste-to-energy service provider from Britain, hired Miralto to assess the viability of deploying their proprietary method for capturing organic waste and cost-effectively transporting it to anaerobic digesters for conversion to energy.

With the passing of AB1826, which diverts food waste away from landfill, many California businesses are faced with increasing costs to dispose legally of their waste at a composter or anaerobic digester. OWL has been conducting similar services in Britain and sees an opportunity to start a business in California.

Our assessment confirms and refines their value proposition featuring a technology with advantages over traditional methods of waste collection. The value delivery system secures lower transportation costs and higher quality feedstock for anaerobic digestion thus producing more energy with less risk and pollution. Implementation planning for California pilots identifies multiple deployments capitalizing on a mix of public and private funding sources, complying with all government regulations, recognizing franchise agreements, and the geographic distribution of demand generation within proximity of anaerobic digestion facilities.
